Godzilla Returns in Apple TV+’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”

Godzilla is back.

Godzilla is hitting the small screen, courtesy of a new series on Apple TV+ called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The show will take an in-depth look at Monarch, the secretive organization that has served as the connective tissue between Legendary’s modern-day “MonsterVerse” films, Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. The show stars Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell, who play the same army officer in two periods. Other cast members include: Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

Monarch marks a further expansion of the MonsterVerse beyond the big screen and is the second series in this shared universe. The first was an animated show called Skull Island that’s on Netflix.

The first look offers a summary of the 10-episode series, which tracks two siblings as they uncover their father and family’s connection to Monarch in the aftermath of Godzilla’s first appearance. The summary says the show will track three generations as it “reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”

Chris Black, who worked on Severance and Star Trek: Enterprise, and Hawkeye comic book writer Matt Fraction co-developed the series, with Matt Shakman of Wandavision directing the first two episodes.

There isn’t a release date for the show, which will premiere on Apple TV+.
