The Fire TV and Fire Stick are versatile streaming devices that offer a world of entertainment. However, with a few tweaks and tricks, you can unlock even more potential from your Fire device. Here are our top 10 tips for Fire TV owners to enhance their streaming experience.
- Turn Off Auto-Playing Videos & Audio: Tired of those annoying auto-play videos and audio previews on your Fire TV home screen? Head to Settings > Preferences > Featured Content and disable the Video Auto-Play option. While this won’t stop the ads that play when you first start your Fire TV, it will make your home screen experience less intrusive.
- Stop Targeted Advertising: Concerned about privacy? Opt out of targeted ads by going to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings and turning off Internet-based ads.
- Fire TV App: Download the Fire TV app for your Android, Fire tablet, or iOS device to control your Fire TV using your phone or tablet. This is especially handy when you misplace the remote. Plus, you can use your phone’s keyboard for easier text input.
- Cast Netflix or YouTube: Searching for content on your TV can be cumbersome. Use your phone to find what you want on Netflix or YouTube, then cast it directly to your Fire TV for a seamless viewing experience.
- Sync Recently Watched Across Multiple Fire TVs: Keep track of your viewing progress across multiple Fire TVs in your household with Amazon’s Recently Watched sync feature. If you prefer to keep your viewing history private, you can easily disable this feature in Settings.
- Name Your Devices: Avoid confusion when casting from multiple devices by giving each of your Fire TVs a unique name. Go to your Amazon account, navigate to Manage Your Content and Devices > Your Devices, and rename your devices as needed.
- Connect Bluetooth Headphones: Enjoy your favorite shows without disturbing others by connecting Bluetooth headphones to your Fire TV. Go to Settings > Controllers and Bluetooth Devices > Other Bluetooth Devices to pair your headphones.
- Parental Controls: Set limits on what your kids can watch by using the Parental Controls feature in the Amazon Prime Video app. Go to Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls to create a PIN and restrict access based on content ratings.
- Delete Voice Recordings: Amazon saves your voice search history. If you’re concerned about privacy, delete these recordings by going to your Amazon account > Manage Your Content and Devices > Manage Voice Recordings > Delete.
- Customize Your Home Screen: Tailor your Fire TV home screen by selecting your favorite apps for the quick launch row. Access the app list by clicking on the three boxes and the + menu option. Choose your desired apps and move them to the top row for easy access.
