fuboTV Removes Its Starter Plan for Some New Subscribers

fuboTV has updated its plans and pricing again. This time, the live TV streaming service has removed its basic Starter plan, which came in at $64.99, for some new subscribers visiting the site. For those new visitors, plans now start with the Pro package at $69.99. This change won’t be seen by all new subscribers. Others will still see all four package options.

We reached out to fuboTV for a comment about the update and a spokesperson’s response is below:

It is always fuboTV’s mission to offer a leading package of premium sports, news and entertainment content, plus innovative product features, while also providing value and keeping costs low for consumers.

Today, we launched a test of our channel plans and signup interface. Some new consumers are being offered the Pro, Elite and Latino plans.

Over time, we’ve noticed our best-engaged customers maximize their DVR use. Given the DVR capacity is limited in the Starter package, as well as the number of concurrent streams, we’ll be testing making Pro the primary offer for new consumers to provide greater value around their DVR and household sharing experience.

Pro offers all of the same sports, news and entertainment channels as Starter, but with upgraded DVR storage of 1,000 hours and Unlimited Screens (up to 10 device streams at home simultaneously). Customers of our Pro plan can enjoy the recent addition of Magnolia Network, which was previously only available in our Elite package.

fuboTV’s channel packages offer sports fans and their families the lowest cost option on the market for news, entertainment and sports, including national coverage of NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, soccer and so much more, as well as local teams through our market-leading regional sports network (RSN) portfolio.

The new pricing puts fuboTV in line with Hulu with Live TV which raised its live TV package price to $69.99 to November 2021. With the price hike, Hulu with Live also began offering access to Disney+ and ESPN+.

This change comes after fubo TV’s “experiment” with removing monthly plans and instead only offering new subscribers quarterly plans.

When that change went into effect, fuboTV said “We have temporarily made our channel packages available to new subscribers as quarterly plans. We’re always experimenting with our channel package offerings to better understand what our subscribers like.”

fuboTV reversed the decision just 11 days later and brought back monthly subscriptions.

It’s likely that taking away the basic package is another experiment for fuboTV to see how subscriber numbers will be impacted and how a price hike will be received.
