This week, Fubo raised the price of its TV packages to $101.99 a month if you get RSNs. (RSNs cost as much as $16 a month.) You can opt out of the RSNs and pay just $84.99 a month without the RSN.
Fubo’s New Pricing Structure
The least expensive Fubo package now costs $85 per month. The company attributed the price hike to rising programming costs, citing increased fees from its content providers. While the Essential plan still offers all channels found in Fubo’s Pro plan, it excludes regional sports networks, allowing viewers to save money if they don’t require those channels.
Fubo’s Pro and Elite Plans
The Pro plan, priced at $85 monthly, includes a full suite of regional sports networks (RSNs), which can cost up to $16 per month depending on the local market. Fubo’s Elite plan, priced at $95 per month, offers an even wider selection of channels, including premium sports networks as first spotted yesterday.
Fubo’s Launch of the Essential Plan
Fubo introduced the Essential plan in early December to provide customers with more flexibility. By excluding RSNs, the Essential plan aimed to cater to viewers who don’t require those channels, saving them potentially $16 per month.
As a sports-centric streamer, Fubo prides itself on offering access to local MLB, NBA, and NHL teams, which are becoming increasingly difficult to find on other platforms. The ability to stream favorite local sports teams is a major selling point for many sports fans.
The rising costs of programming are affecting not only Fubo but also other cable, satellite, and streaming companies. Many are either dropping RSNs altogether or moving them to higher-priced tiers to offset the increased costs. This trend is likely to continue as the demand for sports content grows.
Fubo’s Merger with Hulu + Live TV
The price increase comes ahead of Fubo’s planned merger with Hulu + Live TV. The two companies announced their intentions to combine in early January, and while both services will continue to be offered separately, Disney will assume 70% ownership of the new company.
This also comes as Fubo has lost some channels recently, including all channels owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Despite the recent price increase, Fubo remains a competitive option for cord-cutters looking for a comprehensive live TV streaming package. With its wide range of channels, including sports, news, and entertainment, Fubo continues to attract subscribers who are seeking a diverse and affordable streaming experience.
