Friends Reunion Draws 2M Households for HBO Max

The Friends reunion special on HBO Max drew in 2 million US households between Thursday and Monday, according to data from Samba TV. The long awaited special was delayed due to the pandemic and continued being postponed, pushing the release date back a full year. The reunion finally hit HBO Max on May 27 and saw a successful weekend on the streaming service.

According to Samba TV, the audience skewed younger, over-indexing with viewers age 54 and below. Viewers also tended to be more affluent, while Asian (+13%) and white (+7%) viewers over-indexed.

In both New Hampshire and Wyoming, 24% of all households watched the reunion. Interestingly, viewing numbers were even higher in the UK where 2.5 million households watched the special, which aired on linear TV in the UK while it was available only via streaming in the US.

To compare the special to other major streaming events, the final of The Mare of Easttown drew 1.7 million US households on Sunday and Monday on HBO and HBO Max while Cruella, on Disney+ Premier Access, drew just 686,000 US households from Friday to Monday.
