FOX Weather Expands Its Team & Launches on Pluto TV

FOX Weather, FOX News Media’s free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) weather service, has recently made significant additions to its team and distribution channels, bolstering its presence and capabilities just as the hurricane season intensifies.

New Meteorologists Join FOX Weather

Veteran meteorologist Mike Seidel has joined FOX Weather as a meteorologist and storm specialist after a distinguished 30-year career at The Weather Channel. Seidel made his debut at FOX Weather covering Hurricane Debby from Florida, showcasing his extensive experience in live weather reporting. Over his career, Seidel has covered major weather events including Hurricanes Katrina, Ian, Harvey, Irma, and Irene. His dedication to weather journalism is evident from his extensive live coverage and on-ground reporting from significant events like the World Series and the Indianapolis 500.

FOX Weather President Sharri Berg expressed excitement over Seidel’s addition to the team, highlighting the value of his experience as the network gears up for a particularly active hurricane season. Seidel himself expressed enthusiasm about continuing his storm coverage passion with FOX Weather.

In addition to Seidel, Ari Sarsalari has joined the FOX Weather team from The Weather Channel App. Sarsalari’s experience spans nearly a decade at The Weather Channel App, with prior roles as a meteorologist at WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama, and WOWK-TV in West Virginia.

Expansion of Distribution with Pluto TV

In a strategic move to broaden its audience reach, FOX Weather has also expanded its distribution to include Pluto TV as of August 1, 2024. This new partnership brings FOX Weather’s live weather news service to Pluto TV users, enhancing accessibility during an active hurricane season. This expansion places FOX Weather on all major FAST platforms, ensuring comprehensive coverage and availability.

Sharri Berg emphasized the importance of this partnership, especially given the current unprecedented hurricane season, stating that it would help keep viewers informed, prepared, and safe.

Since launching in October 2021, FOX Weather has rapidly grown, partnering with various platforms such as Samsung TV Plus, Verizon Fios, The Roku Channel, Fubo, YouTubeTV, Amazon News, DIRECTV STREAM, Xumo Play, Hulu + Live TV, and more. It also provides simulcasts on FOX Business Network and FOX Television Station Diginets in top markets.

FOX Weather offers a 24/7 service leveraging FOX News Channel’s news gathering units and FOX Television Stations’ resources, featuring a team of 120 meteorologists. The platform employs multiple radar systems, including immersive mobile 3D radar, delivering innovative and comprehensive weather forecasting from immediate to long-term perspectives. FOX Weather’s service is accessible through its website, mobile apps, and various internet-connected TV platforms.

The addition of seasoned meteorologists Mike Seidel and Ari Sarsalari, coupled with the expanded distribution to Pluto TV, significantly strengthens FOX Weather’s capability to deliver timely and accurate weather coverage. These strategic moves ensure that FOX Weather remains a leading source of weather news, providing viewers with critical information during one of the most active hurricane seasons on record.
