FOX Launches a Free Streaming Service For Local News Called FOX Local

Today FOX Television Stations announced a new streaming app that will offer free access to news, weather, and local programming. The new app called FOX Local will make it easy for you to watch local news from Fox affiliates.

At launch, only Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St.Paul, Milwaukee, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington DC are live on the service, but more locals will reportedly be added soon.

“FOX Local is the crucial next step in our overall streaming strategy, which is focused on providing viewers the easiest and fastest ways to watch their most trusted local news and programming,” said Jeff Zellmer, Senior Vice President of Digital Operations for Fox Television Stations.

Currently, the Fox Local app is only live on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV devices. FOX says more devices will be added soon, but you can also watch it on Foxlocal.com if your device is not supported right now. No word yet on when or if Roku will be supported.

The service will also include access to national news from LiveNow from Fox, Fox Soul, and Fox Weather at launch. This helps make Fox Local a great option for local and national news.

Not only will you find live news and live programing but also on-demand access to local and national news.

Here is how Fox describes the service:

Watch FOX LOCAL for news, top stories, local and national coverage. FOX LOCAL is your 24/7 streaming coverage across the nation. Your local FOX stations. Your local news. Anywhere and everywhere you are. Your favorite cities: Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St.Paul, Milwaukee, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington DC.

No word yet on what other locals will be added to this service.
