Fox Agrees to End Blackouts for MLB Games, But There Is a Catch…

mlb-2Love MLB but hate having blackouts lock you out of your game? We have great news for you! Forbes is reporting that Fox has agreed to a three-year deal starting next season to stream games in market blackout areas for free.

Fox currently holds the rights to air games for the following teams.

But this won’t work for MLB.TV yet… Right now this is only for people who have a pay-TV service, like cable TV, even though MLB has stated they wanted to also remove the blackouts for MLB.TV. While this may fall short of being a cord cutters dream, it is a step in the right direction and hopefully only the start.

Now we just need other services to get on board and allow streaming through services like MLB.TV. Once that happens, you will no longer need cable to watch your favorite team.

Sports is currently the number one reason people pay for cable TV because its live and typically not something people are willing to watch the next day. Once the game is over the ability to make money by rearing it significantly drops.

Hopefully some type of deal can be made to make companies like Fox happy and allow streaming without a $100 a month bill.
