A Former Apple Executive Will Run Disney’s New Streaming Service

According to reports Disney has found their new head man to take on Netflix. Recently Disney hired a former Apple executive, Kevin Swint, to lead their new video on-demand service that is expected to launch in 2019.

Kevin Swint was previously director of iTunes and now will be a senior vice president and general manager at Disney.

Disney has recently announced plans to pull all of their shows from Netflix when their contract ends in 2019. To replace their Netflix presence, Disney plans to launch their own streaming service full of Disney content.

This seems to be one more step in Disney’s plans to move into streaming. Disney recently bought BAMTech, the company that powers many of the largest streaming services in the United States. Disney is also in the process of purchasing FOX’s part of Hulu, a move that will give Disney majority control of that streaming service.

Yet there is still one more streaming service coming from Disney this year. They recently announced that they will launch an ESPN+ streaming service later in 2018.

What Disney plans to do with Hulu and what the new Disney streaming service will look like are still up in the air. What we do know is that Disney has decided that the future of TV is streaming, and they are moving quickly to expand their streaming presence.
