First Look: DIRECTV NOW’s New DVR & App

Sometime late this fall DIRECTV NOW is rolling out a new DVR and app for its subscribers, but some already have access to the app and DVR as part of a closed, invite-only beta.

Thankfully we have been able to get a first look at the new app and DVR and have been able to make this video with the images we have of the new service:

The following are a few highlights of what we know about the new DVR and app:

Supported Devices

So far we can confirm that DIRECTV NOW’s new DVR is being beta tested on the Apple TV, Android, iOS, Fire TV (2^nd generation), Chrome browser, and the Chromecast.

Many devices, such as the Fire TV, have only recently been added. So far there is no word on Roku support.

Fast Forward & Live TV Pause

We have some good news. Yes, you can fast forward through commercials and pause live TV.

DVR Storage

According to beta testers, the current DVR storage is 100 hours. Sling TV’s DVR beta also offered 100 hours, but when it went public it only offered 50 hours. We will need to wait for the official announcement to find out what the DIRECTV NOW storage limits will be.

The New App

From what we have seen the new app replaces the dark background for a white/light gray look; however, the Apple TV app still offers a darker look.
