The Fire TV Makes it Easier to Find Free Content

Today AFTVnews spotted a minor update that Amazon slipped into the Amazon Fire TV. This update added a new free streaming section allowing you to quickly find all the free content Amazon’s Fire TV has to offer.

This update shows free content from multiple services, but Amazon has not announced all the services that are now included in this area. When looking at the free section, the content does not list what service it comes from.

There is one big issue with this new system, though. Amazon includes content that is free only if you signup for a free trial from that service. So not all of it comes from exclusively free ad-supported services, according to AFTVnews like the recent Google TV update.

Right now, this update seems to only be on Fire TV sticks. Fire TV Smart TVs and Fire TV cubes do not offer the new free tab, according to AFTVnews.

Free ad-supported streaming is one of the fastest-growing sectors in cord cutting. Google recently launched a similar tab that offered access to over 800 live TV channels. As cord cutters look to save money, a growing number of them are turning to free ad-supported services.
