Fire TV Adds Single Sign-On Support

Today Amazon enabled the ability to sign in once with a pay-TV provider and get access to a growing list of apps like Hallmark Channel, CNN Go, DIY, A&E, History, and more. This allows you to avoid the annoying task of having to log into each app individually on the Fire TV. Now you can log in just once and have access to all of the content your provider offers.

Right now Amazon is supporting all of the major pay-TV providers like Cox, and more. Sadly no live TV streaming services seem to be supported at this time. The good news is DIRECTV and Dish are both supported so hopefully DIRECTV NOW and Sling TV will be added shortly.

Update: Looks like more services have been added as Hulu and PlayStation Vue are now showing up as a supported single sign-on provider. Amazon did say their signal sign-on service now supports over 500+ pay TV services.

This was first sported over at AFTVnews who posted some great screenshots if you want to see how it works.

To access the signal sign-on feature just launch any supported app and sign in with your pay-TV provider. After you do that once all supported apps that you pay for will be unlocked. As best I can tell there is no option to do this in the settings and you must do it by launching a pay-TV provider.

Update #2: Amazon reached out to Cord Cutters News to say that Comcast and Spectrum are not apart of their new single sign-on service.
