New York-based film and television studio and streaming network FilmRise reports the company had a successful year in 2020, thanks to more people turning to in-home entertainment. The free, ad-supported streaming network grew its install base 30% last year now with more than 31.5 million users.

“2020 was an unprecedented year not only for FilmRise, but for the entire home entertainment ecosystem,” said Danny Fisher, President and CEO of FilmRise. “We saw quite rapidly the consumer’s appetite change from broadcast and cable to OTT platforms much sooner than anticipated. The pandemic most certainly shortened the inevitable transition considerably.”

FilmRise had a number of multi-title deals with entertainment companies in 2020, including Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Nordic Entertainment Group, upping its library of popular content. Results from the deals brought WB’s films Sleepers, The Informant!, Cobra to the streaming platform, as well as NENT’s six seasons of the highly popular Doc Martin series and the original British version of Shameless.

With a library of over 30,000 movies and television episodes, FilmRise is currently the largest independent provider of content to ad-supported streaming services, providing content to platforms including The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, IMDb TV, Peacock, Tubi and Crackle
