A recently uncovered FCC listing suggests T-Mobile could be developing a media streamer powered by Android TV as part of its TVision home television service. While the listing focuses on the device’s remote control, there’s still a decent amount of info to glean.
First up, the listing indicates the device was initially submitted to the FCC back in January with a request to keep certain aspects, like photos and the user manual confidential for a period of 180 days. Based on the January 16th submission date, that period concluded earlier this week, and we now have clear pictures of a TVision-branded remote. Elsewhere on the device, you can see hotkeys for both Netflix and YouTube, as well as dedicated controls for a guide and DVR. Meanwhile, internal photos list a Bluetooth antenna onboard.
You can also spot a prominent Google Assistant button located just below a standard directional pad. Mentions of an Android home button in the listed product manual further cement the device’s likely Android TV roots.
T-Mobile bills its TVision services as an alternative to cable, with 154-plus channels and 400 hours of DVR space. There’s still plenty left unknown at this point, including a release date, price, and what the streaming device itself actually looks like, but it seems pretty clear the Uncarrier is prepping to offer an in-house streaming option in the future.
