Facebook Will Live Stream MLB Games Starting Tomorrow

Today Major League Baseball  and Facebook announced a deal to live stream MLB games on Facebook.

The deal will see a national game streamed via MLB’s Facebook page each Friday beginning with tomorrow’s (Friday. May 19th) with a game between the Rockies at Reds at 7:10pm ET. Facebook and the MLB will announce other weekly matchups at a future date.

“This is very important for us to experiment [with Facebook],” said Manfred.

Unlike the MLB streaming deal with Twitter all games will be streamed nationally without blackouts. All told there will be 20 games streamed to Facebook via a feed from a participating team’s local broadcast rightsholder.

“Baseball games are uniquely engaging community experiences, as the chatter and rituals in the stands are often as meaningful to fans as the action on the diamond. By distributing a live game per week on Facebook, Major League Baseball can re-imagine this social experience on a national scale,” said Dan Reed, Facebook’s Head of Global Sports Partnerships. “We’re thrilled to work with MLB to enable baseball fans on Facebook to watch live games and connect with friends and fellow fans around the action, no matter where they live in the U.S., and are excited to help the league continue to reach new audiences on our platform.”
