Facebook Wants to Stream HBO, Showtime, & Starz Through Facebook Watch

Today it was reported that Facebook is in talks with HBO, Showtime, and Starz about a possible deal to let customers buy their networks through Facebook. This would work like Amazon Channels that allows you to manage your subscription to multiple streaming services from a single place.

According to reports from Recode says Facebook is in talks with multiple studios to offer an Amazon Prime Channels like services. This comes just a week after Facebook announced deals to bring classic shows to their TV streaming services. Now you will be able to watch every episode of Joss Whedon’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly free on Facebook Watch.

Facebook has struggled to find hit original shows with their Facebook Watch platform. Some of the expected new shows like a remake of MTV’s Real World won’t hit Facebook until 2019. Now they seem to be turning classics to help bridge the gap until they have their own hit original shows.

Facebook Watch works on Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Android, and iOS devices. There is no word on if this is the start of Facebook building a free streaming services full of older hit shows like Firefly or if this is just a stop-gap measure to hold people over until new content launches in 2018 from their partners.
