Facebook Sees Roku & The Apple TV As a New Way to Make Money

Roku31Facebook has been looking to expand their business beyond their social media domination. Now Facebook is moving in on a market that has been dominated by Roku. That is, streaming player ads.

Right now Roku is the largest seller of ads on streaming players. Not only are they the largest but ads are also one of the largest business segments at Roku. Now Facebook wants to take a big bite out of that market with a new deal to supply ads to A+E and Tubi TV.

“We are testing how to best deliver video ads through Audience Network to people watching content on connected TVs,” a company spokesperson said. “Our goal is to bring relevant ad experiences to people both on Facebook and off.”

Facebook’s streaming player desires do not end with ads. Recently they launched a Facebook app for streaming players like the Apple TV.

Streaming ads have been a big business for companies such as Roku because these ads are often unskippable, and there are no widespread ad blockers on streaming players. This captive audience and control of the platform is something that ad sellers such as Roku and now Facebook see as a profitable new market with a lot of growth potential.
