Facebook Plans to Add New Tab for News Videos

Girl on PhoneMark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, discussed plans to create a new tab on Facebook, dedicated to news content, according to a report from Variety.

Zuckerberg says that the decision is based on the success of the current Facebook Watch tab, which has been gaining interest from publishers, many of whom are creating content exclusively for the site.

Rather than adding news to the current Facebook Watch setup, the company will be giving news content its own separate area on the site to make it easier for users to find exactly what they’re looking for. “We’ve decided that there really is an opportunity to do something like this with news as well.” Zuckerberg said during a conversation recorded by Facebook with Springer CEO Mathias Doepfner this morning.

In 2018, Facebook made changes that resulted in news content showing up 20% less in newsfeeds. The change was made in order to make newsfeeds more personal and to focus on building connections between users.

The change should be a good one for Facebook users who will get a more personalized news feed and easy to navigate content watching experience. It will also be a positive for news organizations. “There is a real opportunity to have better monetization for publishers than we have today at news feed,”Zuckerberg commented.
