Facebook is Working On a Streaming Player to Take on Roku, Amazon, & Apple

Male hand holding TV remote control. Are you ready for one more streaming player? Now it is being reported by Cheddar that Facebook is working on a streaming player that will sit on top of your TV with a built-in camera and streaming apps.

This new device is reportedly codenamed Ripley and will come with Facebook Watch built-in along with 3rd party streaming services. The device will also work as a video chat device that will allow you to video chat with family and friends using your TV.

Facebook would face a hard uphill fight to overtake Roku, Amazon, and Apple who all have millions of devices sold across the United States and the world. Yet Facebook does have a very dedicated following that could help them put a dent into the huge lead of companies like Roku, Amazon, and Apple. Yet there are many wondering if Americans will trust Facebook enough to put their camera in their living room.

The new Ripley device is reportedly planned to be released in the spring of 2019. Thought that date could change as testing on the device continues in testing.
