Facebook is Reportedly Developing a Streaming Device to Launch This Fall

couple sitting on couch watching tvFacebook is reportedly preparing to release a new streaming device this fall, according to a report from The Information. It’s been reported that the device will include both a camera for video chat and the ability to add streaming apps for watching content.

The device sounds similar to Facebook Portal, a device that allows users to make video calls with a smart camera. Facebook Portal also connects with your Facebook account and has Alexa built in to use voice commands and connect to other smart home devices. This new device would add the ability to stream content from major streaming services and would include a remote control.

According to the report from The Information, Facebook has been in talks with Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Disney, and other major companies to discuss making their streaming services available on the device.

Cheddar first reported on Facebook’s plan to develop the hardware back in October. At that time, there was talk of the device being introduced in the spring.
