If you’ve noticed that your Facebook feed has turned into a list of ads and content from random groups or people you never followed, it’s not just you. Meta has been focused on using Facebook to recommend content to users. Over time, that has meant that users are seeing fewer updates from friends and family – the reason most of us signed up for the social media site.
Meta is now backtracking and making updates to bring us back to connecting with people we know.
In a news post today, the company shared that it’s bringing back “OG” Facebook experiences, starting with a revamped Friends tab. Users in the U.S. and Canada can now use the Friends tab to skip recommended content and see updates only from their Facebook friends. You’ve probably noticed the Friends tab before, but it was previously used to show friend requests and a list of people you may know. Now, that spot will be used for your friends’ stories, reels, posts, birthdays and friend requests.
Meta says that this is just the first of a series of updates being made to “bring back the joy of what we first created on Facebook.”
