Everything We Know About The New Pixel 8 Android Phone

Google has been a leading technological innovator for decades and is at it again with its upcoming Pixel 8 launch rumored to replace desktops and laptops.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro may do more than build off the Pixel 7a released last year. The Android phone is rumored to feature a new generation Tensor G3 processor chip, upgraded camera sensors, and new displays, as reported by Android Authority.

The company already makes it easy to switch between its line of Android phones and Chromebooks, but the possibility of replacing all devices with a single phone which can also be used as a laptop is an enticing idea. While the Chromebook and Pixel house similar features using the Google Suite, the Pixel is significantly more pocket friendly.

And wouldn’t it be nice to only need one device?

As tweeted by Mishaal Rahman, “Android 14 seems to add support for a new version of the USB Gadget HAL: v2.0 can report whether a connected USB-C cable supports DP Alt Mode. May we finally get a Pixel with video output via USB-C? Wishful thinking on my part, but with all the recent desktop mode improvements..”

If Google Pixel releases a phone that can be used with a keyboard, mouse, and external display the computer industry might be seeing some competition with Android phones. Over half of internet users almost exclusively use a mobile device already, so why not take the plunge and make the customers happy with a simplified user experience?

When will Google release the next generation of Pixel phones? That’s yet to be decided and details are mostly speculation and hopes at this point. Google typically releases new Pixel models in October, just in time for holiday shopping sprees, so it’s likely the Pixel 8 will debut then as well.

As for what the new models will include, we’ll just have to wait and see.
