Why Is Everyone So Negative on Cord Cutting Recently? We Take a Look

Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeIf you have browsed the Internet recently you likely have found a long lists of anti-cord cutting posts. Everything from you can’t save money to skyrocketing Internet prices! Why are we seeing so many of these negative stories?

Cable loves them because they do work on many people. Their hope is to honestly scare you into handing over your hard-earned money. For example, take a look at Cox’s anti-cord cutting tactics.

Why do other sites that don’t seem to have any ties to cable post doom and gloom stories? They make a lot of money. People are far more likely to read a story with a doom and gloom headline than one with a positive headline.

The American radio legend Paul Harvey talked about this at great depth. In short good news does not sell like bad news does. People, whether they want to admit it or not, are far more interested in bad news than good news.

So the next time you see a story about how in 5 years Internet will cost so much more or cord cutting is doomed remember this post.

Never before have we had so many options for TV. Right now there are over 100 streaming services in the United States. In 2017 a long list of new services are coming including a standalone ESPN service and new live TV services from Hulu, Comcast, and Verizon. Every month Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and DIRECTV NOW get better. I could keep going but you get the idea.

What about Internet? I talked about that in more depth here, but every month more options come on the market. As we sit here Google and other companies are working hard on a new wireless Internet service that will bring new and true competition for Americans.

I could go on and on about how great things are with cord cutting. Take everything you read with a grain of salt because cord cutting has never been stronger than it is right now and the future looks great.
