ESPN+ will be the next streaming service to see a price hike, according to a report from The Verge today. In August, the price of ESPN+ will go up to $5.99/month, up from $4.99/month, while the cost of an annual subscription will remain the same at $49.99/year.
Subscribers who are paying $4.99/month will be able to keep their subscription at that price for one year, according to the documents The Verge reported on.
ESPN+ launched in April 2018, allowing viewers to stream college sports, exclusive events, and original content. In May 2020, during a Q2 earnings call, Disney announced that the streaming service had reached 7.9 million subscribers, with help from the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ bundle deal.
With most live sports events still on hold, it’s unclear why Disney is choosing this time to increase the price of its sports-centered streaming service.
