ESPN has inked a multi-year contract extension with Rece Davis, ensuring the award-winning broadcaster remains the cornerstone of its College GameDay football and men’s basketball franchises. Davis, a trusted voice in sports media, will continue to anchor ESPN’s College Football Playoff studio coverage, ABC’s annual NFL Draft presentation, and ESPN’s programming at the NCAA Division I Men’s Final Four. Additionally, the versatile play-by-play commentator will call football and basketball games, solidifying his role as a linchpin of ESPN’s college sports coverage.
Since taking the helm of College GameDay Built by The Home Depot in 2015, Davis has guided the premier college football pregame show to historic success, including its three most-watched seasons and four Sports Emmy Awards for Best Weekly Studio Show. Nominated five times for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host, Davis quarterbacks the live, three-hour broadcast each week before raucous on-campus crowds. He has also hosted College GameDay Covered by State Farm, ESPN’s men’s basketball show, since its inception in 2005, marking its 21st season in 2025.
Davis’ 2024-25 season exemplified his relentless schedule, visiting 19 campuses and traveling to Ireland in August 2024 for a historic GameDay broadcast. “There’s no place like home,” Davis said, quoting a text from ESPN legend Chris Berman. “ESPN is home because of the camaraderie, friendships, and shared pursuit of excellence we enjoy on College GameDay and the other projects with which I’m involved. It’s the best job in television, and I’m thrilled to continue.”
A native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Davis graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama in 1988. His contributions to sports media have earned him accolades, including induction into Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences Hall of Fame (2019) and awards from College Sports Communicators. Before ESPN, Davis honed his craft at local stations in Michigan and Georgia.
