ESPN+ Reaches 17.1M Subscribers for Q4 2021

In Disney’s Q4 earnings report today, the company shared subscriber numbers for each of its streaming services. ESPN+ reached 17.1 million subscribers. That number is up from 14.9 million subscribers in the previous quarter.

Since Q3, the price of ESPN+ rose to $6.99/month or $69.99/year, up from $5.99/month and $59.99/year. Earlier this year Bob Chapek, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company explained that Disney would be focusing on “the expansion of our unrivaled portfolio of multiyear sports rights deals for ESPN and ESPN+” which was likely a factor in the company’s decision to raise the price of the service.

“Lower results at ESPN+ were due to higher marketing and sports programming costs, partially offset by subscription revenue growth. The increase in subscription revenue was due to subscriber growth and, to a lesser extent, an increase in retail pricing,” the company shared in the Q4 report.
