ESPN+ Hits 12.1 Million Subscribers in Quarterly Earnings Call

This week, Disney released subscriber numbers for its streaming services. ESPN+ now has 12.1 million subscribers, as of January 2, 2021. That number is up from 11.5 million which was reported at Disney’s Investor Day Event in December.

During the Investor Day Event, the company shared plans to make ESPN+ content available within the Hulu app. At that time, Disney also announced that ESPN and the SEC have reached a new 10-year agreement beginning in 2024-25. The plan will include giving ESPN+ streaming rights to one non-conference football game and two non-conference men’s basketball games per SEC school each season.

While the streaming service has been building its content library and creating partnerships, ESPN+ has also seen price hikes on both monthly and annual plans. Monthly plans increased from $4.99 to $5.99 last year and annual plans went up by $10 last month, from $49.99 to $59.99. Pay per view UFC fights also saw an increase from $64.99 to $69.99 last month.

We’ll be back with more details as we listen in on Disney’s Q1 earnings call.
