ESPN Plans More Layoffs As Cord Cutting Grows

Recently Disney announced that 7,000 jobs would be cut, and now we are learning that ESPN will be losing staff as part of these cuts. According to a story from the New York Post, ESPN executives have been told to scrutinize their divisions and make them as efficient as possible.

This time cuts are expected to not just hit behind the camera staff but also big-name ESPN personalities and even executives. According to the report, ESPN wants to be as lean as possible and has not set a number for the cuts.

ESPN cuts are expected to be finalized over the next few months.

ESPN is not the only place seeing cuts. Disney is expected to lay off 4,000 workers in April. These cuts will come from Disney’s theme parks, streaming, and TV sectors.

Disney also plans not to fill about 2,000 currently open jobs to help limit the number of layoffs needed.

Disney reportedly plans to cut about $5.5 billion in costs over the next few years. Job cuts are only a part of these cost-cutting efforts. With these cuts, $2.5 billion will be cut from operational costs, and $3 billion will come from cutting back on spending for non-sports content.
