ESPN+ Is Not Targeting Cord Cutters

Last week ESPN+ came out and many are calling it a service targeted at cord cutters. While cord cutters can enjoy ESPN+, it is not targeted at cord cutters.

The truth is ESPN+ is a service for sports fans. They could be cord cutters but they also could be cable TV subscribers.

ESPN+ shows no live sporting events that air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN NEWS, ESPNU, etc. ESPN+ is an add-on service that adds additional content to your current ESPN subscription. Disney has hinted that someday in the future ESPN+ will offer access to ESPN cable networks but as of today, it does not.

Recently we have heard from readers how ESPN+ won’t work for them because it does not have ESPNU etc. in their package. Well, it’s not meant to. If you want ESPNU, ESPN, ESPN2, etc., you still need a streaming service such as Hulu, Sling TV, or DIRECTV NOW.

ESPN+ is aimed at sports fans who want even more sports at their fingertips. The fact that it streams online does not make it a cord cutting service. It is possible that the majority of ESPN+ subscribers will also be cable TV subscribers.

While ESPN+ will give you great sporting events, don’t look for ESPN+ to be a replacement to cable or live TV streaming services. No, ESPN+ is an add-on for both cable TV and live TV streaming services.
