ESPN Is Asking For Help Naming Its New Streaming Service

About a year ago word started to come out that ESPN would have a standalone streaming service. According to Disney this service would air sports not aired on ESPN or ESPN2. For that you would need a streaming service such as Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, or DIRECTV NOW to name a few of them.

Now it looks like it is getting a little closer to releasing the service. Yesterday ESPN started to survey consumers about what it should name the service. This survey was held over at ESPN’s offical Fan Advisors Community.

According to the survey the new service will not include ESPN or ESPN 2. The survey asked about names like ESPN Extra or ESPN Pass as possible names for the new streaming service.

We still don’t know when the service will go live. If it is just now surveying users for a name it is likely at least a few weeks if not a few months away from the service going public.

The question now is how successful will this service be. Will people be willing to pay for sports that they don’t already get from a long list of sports channels such as ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, NBC Sports, and CBS Sports along with a host of specialized sports channels and regional sports channels?

For now all we can do is wait and see what comes of the new ESPN streaming service.
