Editorial: There Is No Such Thing as the Best Streaming Player or Best Streaming Service

Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeOk you may have seen this post before but sometimes somethings need to be said again. Almost every week I get asked what is the best device, service, antenna, etc. No matter what cord cutting group you join there is often debate over what is the best streaming service or best streaming player. Every week during our live Q&A we get asked that question, and we regularly get messages asking us the same thing.

The truth is there is no such thing as the best streaming service or best streaming player. No one option is perfect for everyone.

So why is there no perfect option for everyone?

We are a diverse group of people. While I love football, you may hate it. The same thing goes for streaming services. They all offer different shows, channels, price points, and more. So Netflix and Hulu may offer everything you want, but someone else may want a live TV streaming service. If you are a Pac-12 fan Sling TV is a great option example but for Big Ten fans Sling TV may not be the best pick.

The same thing is true when it comes to streaming players. If you use iTunes, the Apple TV is the player for you; however, others may hate the remote or find the quick launch buttons on Roku to be a huge selling point.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that their preferred player or streaming service is the best just remember it may be best for them but not you. Get what you like and what has the content you want.
