Dolby’s Sound Tech Makes Wireless Speaker Setup Easier, and Heads to TCL First

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, the audio company’s latest sound technology, claims to make any seat the best seat in the house. TCL TV owners will be the first to the new feature.

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect pairs a TV’s sound system with accessory wireless speakers to create a more immersive sound experience. The tech can also optimize sound based on the room’s layout and speaker set up. In addition to getting the new sound tech first, TCL will launch a line of compatible speakers in its 2024 TV lineup.

Even though we’re not as confined to our homes like in 2020, watching movies and TV is still a massive part of our daily lives. Neilsen reported Americans increased time spent streaming video content 18% from 2021 to 2022. With all the services and content available, it makes sense to want top-tier sound quality. And nothing is more annoying than having to constantly adjust the TV’s volume or make tweaks to your living room to optimize for sound.

“Consumers shouldn’t have to move their furniture to experience better audio, but rather audio should adapt to them,” John Couling, senior vice president of entertainment for Dolby Laboratories, said in a statement. “Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is an entirely new category of experience that offers consumers the freedom and flexibility to choose how they want to arrange their devices while still getting a great immersive Dolby Atmos experience.”

Dolby and TCL will show off Dolby Atmos FlexConnect at IFA, an annual tech show based in Berlin, next month.
