Disney’s Deal to Merge With FOX Receives Justice Department Approval

Today the Justice Department agreed to approve the Disney merger with FOX after Disney agreed to a few requests. Per the deal, Disney will sell off the all 22 FOX Regional Sports Networks like Fox Sports Detroit and Fox Sports Midwest as part of the deal.

“We are pleased that the DOJ concluded that, with the exception of the proposed acquisition of the Fox Sports Regional Networks, the transaction will not harm competition, and that we were able to resolve the limited potential concerns to position us to move forward with this exciting opportunity that will enable us to create even more compelling consumer experiences,” Disney said in a statement.

This should clear the way for a quick merger between Disney and FOX. With this deal, Disney will get ownership of 20th Century Fox movie and television studio, cable channels including FX and National Geographic, and Fox’s portfolio of international operations, including a fast-growing pay-TV service in India. The deal will also give Disney 60% ownership of Hulu.

The deal does not include Fox News, the Fox broadcast network, television stations, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. His newspapers such as Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Times of London and a portfolio of Australian properties are housed in a second company, News Corp.
