Disney+ Will Make European Viewers Wait for Mandalorian, Clone Wars Episodes

Disney+ will be launching in some parts of Europe on March 24, 2020, and according to this post, not every new Disney+ original will be available right away. Disney plans to release episodes of older Disney+ originals weekly, rather than all at once at launch.

Here’s what Disney+ told WhatsOnDisneyPlus.com:

“At launch, Disney+ will premiere 26 original series and movies exclusively on the service. In most cases, our Disney+ original series will have episode one available at launch. New episodes will be released weekly, and available on the service every Friday at 8 am.

There are some exceptions to this that we wanted to highlight:

“The Mandalorian”

To celebrate the launch of Disney+, we are pleased to launch with two episodes of The Mandalorian on 24th March, with Episode 3 being released on Friday 27th March.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars”

The final season of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will be available exclusively on Disney+.  At launch episodes one and two will be available. Two episodes will be released every Friday, from Friday 27th March.

Then, from Friday 17th April, one episode will be released weekly, in line with the US. This is to ensure fans can watch together around the world.”

Speculations are that Disney+ is implementing this strategic release of original content over the course of a period of time in an attempt to keep subscription numbers up once the initial free trial is over. With a global pandemic keeping people at home, Disney knows many viewers would binge-watch everything they were interested in seeing on Disney+ during the free trial and cancel right after that before their paid subscription kicked in. Trickling the original content in over an extended amount of time ensures more viewers will stick around to see it.
