Disney+ Will Be Adding More Adult Friendly Content

The Mandalorian Bounty HunterThere’s no doubt that Disney+ is a great streaming service when it comes to kid friendly content, but what about parents and other adults? While the Disney+ library has some Fox movies, plenty of Marvel content, and an entire section of National Geographic series and documentaries, many are still saying that the service could use some R rated content for the over 18 crowd.

When Disney’s Direct-To-Consumer Chairman Kevin Mayer spoke at Recode’s Code Media conference in Los Angeles, he shared that more adult friendly titles are coming.

“We have them coming on in a cadence we think it is the right cadence that we can make sure it’s high-quality. We don’t want to rush things through just to have volume, that’s not our philosophy. We want to do fewer things better.”

While it sounds like Disney+ is planning to bring more adult focused programming to the platform, the company has previously said that they won’t include R-rated content on Disney+. Those shows and movies will find a home on Hulu. However, Mayer was clear that Disney+ is for everyone and will continue to add content for all ages.

“We have plenty of programming that’s adult entry points, from a movie format and an original series format,” Mayer said, while discussing The Mandalorian, which is both family friendly and a way to get adults interested in Disney’s original content. “It’s really not just a kids service and I want to be emphatic about that.”
