Disney+ Was the Most Downloaded Streaming App in the U.S. for 2020

Disney+ sits on top of the list of most-downloaded Video On Demand apps in the U.S for 2020. Apptopia reports the streamer had 45.2 million mobile downloads during the year, just beating Netflix who came in a close second with 44.7 million. The Mouse House has more than 86.8 million paid subscribers worldwide, adding 2.3 million downloads over the Christmas weekend alone.

While Disney+ reigns on top in the U.S., Netflix is still king globally. The streaming pioneer had 220M downloads worldwide, blowing its competition out of the water. Disney+ managed to climb into fourth place with 102M, still a respectable number given how relatively new the platform is. YouTube and Amazon Prime Video came in second and third with 170M and 130M downloads respectively.

The discrepancy in downloads between Netflix and Disney+ must also be looked at knowing Netflix is available in more countries than Disney+. Netflix is currently available in 190 countries, while Disney+ reaches around 30 different territories, with more to come.

Also worth mentioning is HBO Max which sits at No. 8 in the U.S., just months after launching in the summer of 2020. The new streaming service is the fastest-growing SVOD platform in the country right now.
