In a move that has sparked frustration among viewers, The Walt Disney Co. has denied DIRECTV’s request to temporarily restore its channels, including ABC, ahead of tonight’s Presidential Debate, according to a report from DIRECTV. This decision comes amidst an ongoing carriage dispute that has left DIRECTV customers without access to Disney’s programming for the past 10 days.
Disney’s rejection of DIRECTV’s offer, which proposed restoring all Disney channels through the end of Monday Night Football on September 17, has drawn criticism. DIRECTV expressed willingness to bring back ABC in time for the debate if Disney reciprocated by restoring its full channel lineup for the next week. This would have allowed viewers to enjoy not only the debate but also the Emmy Awards and various sports events.
Despite Disney’s refusal, DIRECTV assures customers that they can still watch the Presidential Debate live on other major networks like CBS, NBC, and FOX, as well as various news channels. DIRECTV is also actively assisting customers in finding alternative ways to watch Disney channels and is offering a $30 bill credit to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the ongoing dispute.
The standoff between Disney and DIRECTV continues, leaving viewers in the lurch as negotiations for a new agreement remain unresolved. DIRECTV’s offer to restore all Disney channels, including ABC, remains open, but for now, viewers will have to find alternative ways to access Disney’s programming.
