Disney Plans to Double Down on Hulu

This week Disney held their third quarter 2018 earnings call. During that call, we learned that Disney has big plans for Hulu after their deal to buy FOX’s share of Hulu closes.

Disney plans to expand Hulu internationally and invest more into content on Hulu.

“Given the success of Hulu so far in terms of subscriber growth and the relative brand strength and other things too like demographics, we think there’s an opportunity to increase investment in Hulu notably on the programming side,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said.

Iger went on to say, “After the deal closes and after we have the 60 percent ownership, we’ll meet with the Hulu management team and the board and discuss what the opportunities are in terms of both global growth and investing more in content. But that’s something that we have to do after the deal closes.”

This all lines up well with what we heard Disney planned to do with Hulu. For some time now, we have heard that Disney wants their new Disney+ streaming service to focus on kids and Hulu to be targeted at adults.

The good news is if you are a Hulu subscriber it sounds like Hulu will soon have even more content for subscribers.
