Disney Makes Its Case In Spectrum Cable TV Blackout Dispute

Charter’s Spectrum cable service has largely dominated the discussion over why talks broke down with Disney that led to the removal of ESPN, FX, local ABC stations and more. Now, Disney is speaking out.

The media giant posted a large update on its site highlighting some of the key points. While it has relayed some of these arguments in previous emailed-statements, this marks the first big public posting of its arguments.

“Labor Day weekend is supposed to be one of the more relaxing holidays of the year in the U.S. Unfortunately, Charter has made it a stressful one for its customers—many of whom have been experiencing up to three-hour hold times to cancel their cable subscription after Disney’s networks went dark,” the company said.

Disney reiterated the popularity of ESPN and its channels and stations. The company also reiterated that Charter declined its offer to extend negotiations. Charter had said it had offered an short extension of the existing contract to keep the service going, but Disney declined.

“Disney deeply values its relationship with its viewers and is hopeful Charter is ready to have more conversations that will restore access to its content to Spectrum customers as quickly as possible,” the company said.

The company shared a site that spoke directly to Spectrum customers and offered alternative services to switch to.

Spectrum declined to comment on the post.
