Disney+ Launches in Latin America

Just over one year from its initial launch date, Disney+ is now available in 10 Latin American countries. The streaming service rolled out in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Colombia, Uruguay, and Ecuador today, November 17, 2020.

Expanding into this new market will be Disney+’s next big growth surge after recently rolling out in India earlier this year. Most of Disney+’s current subscriber base of 73 million comes from the US and India. Analysts predict the streaming service to add 112 million subscribers between 2020 and 2025, and this Latin America launch will definitely contribute to a running start.

Here’s how much Disney+ will cost monthly in each Latin American country:

Latin America has become a focus for SVOD services to hone in on, partly because of its growing streaming infrastructure. Hulu and HBO Max are set to expand into South America in 2021.

“We now expect the number of subscription OTT video viewers in Latin America to grow by 27.5% this year to 117.2 million,” analyst Matteo Ceurvels said. “That’s a roughly 16-percentage-point increase from the 11.6% growth we previously anticipated in our September 2019 forecast.”
