Disney+ is the Best New Streaming Service of 2019 (Cordie Awards 2019)

2019 brought several new streaming services and the promise of even more to come. We’ve already looked at the most anticipated services for next year. Now, let’s look back at our readers’ favorite new streaming services of this past year.

When we asked what your favorite new service of 2019 was, 53% said Disney+. In second place was Amazon’s IMDb TV with 16.8% of the votes. Next up was Stirr with 9.7% of the votes, followed by Apple TV with 8.4%. The remaining votes went to “other.”

It isn’t surprising that Disney took the top spot. Data has shown that the new streaming service reached 15 million subscribers in just five days. From questions about pre-paying for three years to talk about The Mandalorian on the Cord Cutting Tech Support Facebook page, we know a lot of Cord Cutters News readers were looking forward to Disney+.

While Apple TV+ got fewer votes, this was another new service with plenty of build up. Apple shared teasers of their original shows, including The Morning Show, For All Mankind, and See in the months leading up to the launch. Apple took a different approach to their service, launching with only originals, rather than a library of shows and movies from other networks and studios.

Two free streaming services also made the list. Amazon launched IMDb TV (then called Freedive) at the beginning of the year, after denying reports that the free service was coming. Stirr also launched at the beginning of the year. Since then, the free streaming service has added local coverage for new cities and new channels to their lineup, now offering over 80 live channels
