Disney+ is Rolling Out a GroupWatch Feature

Disney+ is beginning to offer subscribers a new feature called “GroupWatch.” The feature is being rolled out to some subscribers in Canada and allows users to stream movies and TV episodes together, in groups of up to seven people.

Gizmodo reported last month that this feature would be coming, after receiving a tip about some source code on the Disney+ website. The Gizmodo team found the term “groupwatch” all over the website, including on the landing page for Mulan. That report was spot on, as the code mentioned using the “mobile app or website to invite up to 6 friends to your GroupWatch.”

Disney Plus Informer has step by step instructions for using the feature, and shows that all members of a GroupWatch party can pause or rewind the show or movie while the group is watching. The screenshots don’t show a chat feature, but users can react with emojis.

While some Disney+ subscribers in Canada can begin using the feature now, the rest of us will have to wait. Disney hasn’t yet confirmed that the feature is live, or made any comments about it becoming available to all subscribers.
