Disney+ is No Longer Offering Free Trials

Since its launch, Disney+ has offered new subscribers a 7 day free trial before committing to a $6.99/month subscription. Now, the on demand streaming service has removed the option for a free trial.

Without any announcement from Disney, the change was first spotted by a French tech and pop culture site, Numerama. For those in the US, a visit to the Disney+ website leads non-subscribers to a page to sign up for a Disney+ subscription for $6.99/month or $69.99/year or to choose the Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ bundle for $12.99/month.

“We continue to test and evaluate different marketing, offers, and promotions to grow Disney+. The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own,” a Disney+ spokesperson told The Verge.

While the spokesperson didn’t comment on specifics of why the free trial was removed, the change came just 2 weeks before the release of Hamilton on Disney+. The stage recording of the musical has been highly anticipated, and now those who want to watch the recording when it starts streaming will have to sign up for at least one month of Disney+ to do so.
