Disney is Laying Off Hundreds of Employees

Disney is laying off several hundred employees globally today, sources say. The layoffs will impact those on teams that handle “marketing for both film and television as well as television publicity, casting and development,” according to a report from Deadline. Reports also say that the corporate financial department will be impacted.

While no full teams are being impacted by the cuts, reports say that most of the employees being let go are based in Los Angeles. The employees were notified Monday.

The company has previously commented that layoffs were being done to cut costs and to focus on streaming. Early in 2023, CEO Bob Iger shared plans for downsizing, calling it a “strategic realignment,” with a goal of reaching $7.5 billion in cost savings.

This is the fourth round of layoffs at the company in the last ten months. Disney just did a major layoff of around 200 employees in March. That round of layoffs impacted the ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks unit. Previously, around 75 staffers were laid off from ABC News in October 2024, around 300 in corporate roles were cut in September 2024, and another round impacted those at Disney Entertainment Television and Pixar in summer 2024.
