Disney+ is Giving Gaston a Live-Action Prequel Series

GastonGaston may not get the girl in Beauty and The Beast, but he is getting his own musical, live-action mini-series on Disney+. That’s right, it looks like we’ll finally find out what makes Gaston the way that he is in this origin story set to be a prequel to the classic tale as old as time.

So far there’s no timeline for when this new miniseries will be hitting Disney+, but here’s what we do know:

There will be six episodes in all. Luke Evans will be returning to his role as the toxic masculinity-exuding star himself, with Josh Gad running back to his side as La Fou. Additionally, Gad is also a co-writer and showrunner.

Composer Alan Menken is also set to return, undoubtedly writing a slew of new originals to get stuck in your head (in a good way, of course). Menken has written the music for many of your favorite animated Disney movies, like The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast, as well as music for the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson.

While he might seem like a random character for Disney to create a whole mini-series around, the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast pulled in more than $1 billion at box offices globally. So Disney might be trying to generate at least a portion of that same level of interest in giving Gaston a show of his own.

This new look at his backstory might give Disney fans some clarification on what made Gaston the way he is, and answer all your burning questions, like, when he was a lad if he really ate four dozen eggs every morning to help him get large.
