Ending months of speculation, Disney today launched its first foray into 24/7 live streaming on Disney+. The first of these channels that went live offered free, continuous feed of ABC News, delivering live newscasts, breaking news coverage, and pre-produced news programs around the clock.
The 24/7 feed offers a comprehensive news experience, encompassing everything from live broadcasts of flagship ABC News programs to in-depth special reports and breaking news alerts. This integration further solidifies Disney’s commitment to providing diverse content offerings for its subscribers.
Now Disney+ has also added a 24/7 live feed of Disney Junior Shows, including Pupstruction, Marvel Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and more on the Disney+ app. The channel has no name, but it will be promoted as whatever show is on at that time.
While this is Disney+’s first venture into live streaming, it’s likely not the last. Rumors persist that additional live channels, potentially including ESPN content, could be added in the future. For now, subscribers can enjoy the convenience and immediacy of ABC News Live, marking a new chapter in the evolution of Disney+.
This all comes as Disney recently announced the ABC app, with all of its free live channels, would be shutting down. Rumors have been that many of these live channels would move to the Disney+ app and ABC News 24/7 was the first of these channels to do that.
Disney reportedly hopes that live channels will help keep people in the Disney+ app, driving up hours spent and hopefully ad revenue on ad-supported plans.
