Disney+ Has Announced the Cast List for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

Disney+ is gifting Star Wars fans a new installment into the saga with its original event series Obi-Wan Kenobi. With the success of popular spinoffs like The Mandalorian, this latest storyline is sure to give fans with a heavy appetite for content a new show to devour. There’s been some speculation as to what timeline it will fit into, which characters and cast members will be making an appearance, and more. So this post will tell you everything we know about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series so far.

Who will be in the cast?

Ewan McGregor is reprising his lead role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the new series. Disney has also confirmed Hayden Christensen will be back as Anakin Skywalker – now turned Darth Vader. We’re relieved to find out both of the major characters are not being recast, although we never had reasons to suspect they would be. Disney/Lucasfilm is great about keeping the actors consistent, even 42 years in between movies like Mark Hamil’s first appearance in the film that started it all, A New Hope (1977) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Also joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

When will Obi-Wan Kenobi take place?

The storyline is set 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

When will it be released?

There’s no official release date yet, but shooting is set to begin in April 2021. The film is being directed by Deborah Chow, director of two critically acclaimed episodes of “The Mandalorian,” Season 1. Obi-Wan Kenobi is executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and writer Joby Harold. The casting director is Carmen Cuba.

Where can I watch it?

The event series will be heading straight to Disney+ when it’s released. The show will consist of six hour-long episodes according to an interview McGregor did last year, saying that it’s planned as a single-season show.
