Disney+ Cancels Plans for a Scripted Muppets Series

disney + logoDuring the D23 event, we learned more about some of the original content coming to the Disney+ streaming service when it launches in November. Part of that announcement included talk of Muppets content, without many details given.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has shared news that one of these Muppets series has been scrapped.

The 8 episode limited series, called Muppets Live Another Day, was shut down after creators Adam Horowitz, Eddy Kitsis and Josh Gad walked away from the project. Creative differences were reportedly the cause of the split, after Muppets Studios VP Debbie McClellan left the company, replaced by Disney Parks Live Entertainment senior VP David Lightbody.

The is the second series that has been scrapped by Disney+ so far. Book of Enchantment, a drama series about Disney villains, was also cancelled. The dark tone of the show and budget issues were the reported reasons behind that decision.

While the Muppets series has been abandoned, there will be other Muppets content on Disney+. Another series, Muppets Now was announced at D23. That one is said to be an unscripted series with all of our favorite Muppets characters, including Kermit and Miss Piggy.

Disney+ is set to launch on November 12, 2019. Read more about this upcoming streaming service HERE.
