According to DISH’s patent request, millennials and the next generation are increasingly turning their backs on traditional services and are instead using legitimate services like YouTube to access pirated content. DISH would stop this using an automated system to watermark content to more quickly detect pirated content on networks like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Dailymotion.
DISH hopes that this system will help them to more quickly identify feeds of DISH content. In recent years YouTube has become well known for full live feeds of cable network and live events. Often this comes from taking a live feed from places like DISH. More recently live feeds of cable networks have started to show up on other services like Facebook. Now DISH hopes this new system will help them crack down on this type of piracy.
This effort goes hand in hand with DISH’s recent attacks on illegal IPTV services. DISH wants to put an end to as many illegal piracy services as possible that offer access to DISH content. So far DISH has had great success and has cracked down on multiple IPTV services with the biggest being the IPTV service Set TV. Now, this new patent marks an expansion of that plan.
