DISH Says Not Having FOX RSNs on Sling TV Has Helped Keep Pricing Down

Today during DISH’s 3rd quarter earings call, DISH opened up about its talks with Sinclair over the FOX Regional Sports Networks. According to DISH, they did lose subscribers, but not having these FOX RSNs has helped DISH keep prices down both on DISH and Sling TV.

So far, this seems to have paid off as Sling TV added 214,000 subscribers in the 3rd quarter of 2019. Overall, DISH gained 148,000 subscribers even when including a loss of 66,000 satellite customers. This was a considerable improvement from 2018 when DISH lost 341,000 subscribers in the 3rd quarter.

For now, DISH’s plans to keep costs low, even if that means missing out on some channels, have paid off for DISH. As AT&T, Comcast, Spectrum, Verizon Fios, and more all report subscriber losses, DISH has added subscribers thanks to Sling TV.

The question now is if this plan to keep costs low even if it means not offering some networks will pay off for DISH in the years to come.
